Spotify Faces Global Outage

Spotify suffered a major worldwide outage on Monday December 15 2025 leaving thousands of users unable to stream music podcasts and audiobooks. The disruption affected users across multiple countries and platforms indicating a large scale technical issue rather than an isolated problem.

Real time outage tracker Downdetector recorded a sudden and sharp spike in complaints within minutes. At its peak more than 30000 users in the United States alone reported issues while global reports crossed 20000. The rapid increase confirmed that Spotify was experiencing a widespread service failure.

Most users reported that songs and podcasts would not play unless they were already downloaded for offline use. Others faced severe app sluggishness loading errors and complete playback failure. Login issues were also reported with several users unable to access their accounts at all.

According to Downdetector data mobile users were the most affected. Nearly 87 percent of complaints were linked to the Spotify mobile app. Around 8 percent of users reported login failures while the remaining users faced problems on the web version of the service.

Spotify officially acknowledged the outage through its Spotify Status account on X formerly Twitter. The company posted a brief message stating that it was aware of the issues and that the team was actively investigating the cause. No specific reason or estimated recovery time was shared at the time.

As the evening progressed outage reports began to decline gradually. Downdetector data showed reports dropping from over 30000 to under 6000 suggesting that Spotify services were slowly stabilizing. Some users also reported that playback search and podcast loading had started working again.

While Spotify has not released a detailed technical explanation the falling number of reports and user feedback indicate that the outage is nearing resolution. Users are expected to regain full access to the platform shortly as Spotify continues monitoring and restoring affected systems.
