Dhurandhar storms past Rs 1078 crore worldwide, rewrites Bollywood box office history

The Indian box office has witnessed many landmark moments over the decades, but every once in a while a film arrives that does more than just break records. It reshapes expectations. Dhurandhar, the espionage drama directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh, has now firmly established itself as one such cinematic phenomenon.

On its 25th day in theatres, the film has crossed an extraordinary Rs 1078 crore in worldwide gross collections, placing it among the most successful Indian films of all time. More significantly, it has overtaken the lifetime earnings of several recent blockbusters, signalling a rare combination of sustained audience interest, strong word of mouth and wide demographic appeal.

Entering its fourth week, Dhurandhar has shown remarkable staying power at the box office. While weekday collections naturally softened on its fourth Monday, the film still managed to earn approximately Rs 10.50 crore in India net collections. This pushed its total domestic net figure beyond Rs 701 crore within just 25 days of release, a milestone previously considered nearly unattainable for a Hindi film.

Industry trackers note that crossing the Rs 700 crore net mark has now made Dhurandhar the highest earning Bollywood film in terms of net domestic collections. The achievement places Ranveer Singh in elite company, underlining his position as one of the most bankable stars of the current generation.

The film’s box office trajectory tells a story of consistency rather than a single explosive opening. In its first week, Dhurandhar collected an estimated Rs 207.25 crore, a strong start that laid a solid foundation. Instead of tapering off, collections climbed further in the second week, when the film earned a record breaking Rs 253.25 crore.

Week three brought in another Rs 172 crore, demonstrating that audience interest remained intact even after the initial rush. As of now, week four has already contributed approximately Rs 68.5 crore, with several days still remaining. With the New Year holiday period approaching, trade experts believe the fourth week total could comfortably cross the Rs 100 crore mark, a rare feat for any Hindi film.

Despite being well into its theatrical run, Dhurandhar continues to draw steady footfalls, particularly during evening shows. On its fourth Monday, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 21.39 percent. Morning shows opened at a modest 11.98 percent, while evening shows peaked at an impressive 26.67 percent.

This pattern suggests that the film has transitioned into a word of mouth driven phase, with audiences choosing it as a preferred theatrical outing even weeks after release. Such trends are often seen only in films that resonate beyond spectacle, offering emotional depth and narrative engagement.

In terms of gross collections within India, Dhurandhar has already rewritten history. The film’s domestic gross now stands at approximately Rs 841.6 crore after 25 days. With three days still left before the conclusion of its fourth week, this figure is expected to climb even higher.

Trade analysts point out that no Bollywood film has reached this level of domestic gross so quickly. The scale of the achievement reflects not just high ticket sales, but also a strong presence across multiplexes and single screen theatres alike.

While Dhurandhar has dominated the Indian box office, its overseas performance has been equally impressive. The film has so far earned around Rs 237 crore from international markets, bolstered by strong responses from North America, the Middle East and parts of Europe.

When combined with its domestic gross, the film’s worldwide total now stands at Rs 1078 crore. This milestone places it firmly in the coveted Rs 1000 crore club, a category reserved for only the most successful Indian films.

In crossing the Rs 1000 crore mark, Dhurandhar has overtaken several recent heavyweights. It has moved past Kalki 2898 AD, which concluded its run at approximately Rs 1040 crore worldwide. It has also surpassed Pathaan, the Shah Rukh Khan led action spectacle that earned around Rs 1055 crore globally.

With these achievements, Dhurandhar has now become the seventh biggest Indian grosser of all time, a position that few would have predicted prior to its release.

The film is now steadily closing in on the lifetime collections of Jawan, another Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster that earned approximately Rs 1160 crore worldwide. If Dhurandhar maintains its current pace through the New Year period, it could potentially challenge this figure within days.

Looking further ahead, industry estimates suggest that Dhurandhar is on track for a lifetime global collection of around Rs 1200 crore. Achieving this would place it among the top four Indian grossers ever, bringing it close to pan Indian giants such as KGF Chapter 2 and RRR.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Dhurandhar’s run has been its fourth week performance. With a current week four total of around Rs 68 crore, the film has registered the biggest fourth week net collection ever for a Hindi film.

In doing so, it has surpassed the previous benchmark set by Pushpa 2 The Rule, which earned approximately Rs 53.75 crore net in its fourth week. This achievement underscores the film’s long term appeal, something that cannot be manufactured through marketing alone.

Dhurandhar’s success becomes even more noteworthy when viewed in the context of the competition it has faced. Two weeks into its release, the film went head to head with the Hollywood spectacle Avatar Fire and Ash, yet managed to retain its lead at the box office.

It also held firm against the Christmas release of the romantic comedy Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which failed to significantly dent its collections. As the New Year approaches, Dhurandhar will face fresh competition from Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda. Even so, trade observers believe the film’s strong base will allow it to weather the challenge comfortably.

Beyond numbers and rankings, Dhurandhar represents a broader shift in audience preferences. Its success highlights a growing appetite for well crafted spy thrillers that balance scale with storytelling. The pairing of Ranveer Singh’s intense performance with Akshaye Khanna’s seasoned presence has been widely praised, while Aditya Dhar’s direction has been credited for maintaining narrative grip across a long runtime.
