Samsung Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G launched with AI features, 50MP cameras, IP68 rating and six years updates

Samsung Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G smartphones launched with AI features, 50MP cameras, AMOLED displays and IP68 protection

Samsung Electronics has introduced the new Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G, expanding its popular Galaxy A lineup with a stronger focus on artificial intelligence, camera performance, long term software support and premium everyday usability. The latest launch reflects Samsung’s wider strategy of bringing advanced mobile features beyond flagship devices and into more affordable segments.

With the new Galaxy A series, Samsung is pushing what it calls Awesome Intelligence, a suite of AI powered tools designed to help users complete everyday tasks faster, improve productivity and simplify photo editing. Both smartphones also arrive with 50MP main cameras, large batteries, water and dust resistance, bright AMOLED displays and up to six generations of Android OS upgrades.

The Galaxy A57 5G leads the lineup as the more premium option, while the Galaxy A37 5G targets users seeking strong value with modern features at a lower price point.

Samsung expands AI experience to more users

Samsung says the new devices are built to make artificial intelligence more accessible to mainstream smartphone buyers. Running on Android 16 with One UI 8.5, both phones include a range of software tools designed for practical daily use.

One of the major additions is Voice Transcription inside the Voice Recorder app. This feature can convert recorded speech into text, helping users review lectures, meetings or calls more easily. Translation support is also included for selected content.

Another highlight is AI Select, which can be activated through the Edge Panel. It helps users quickly identify on screen items, extract text or create content suggestions without manually selecting each item. Samsung has also added drag and drop support in split screen mode, making it easier to move images or text into Samsung Notes or the Photo Editor.

The devices also support upgraded voice assistant tools. Samsung’s Bixby can understand more natural language commands for settings and device controls, while Google Gemini support allows deeper task handling across supported apps.

Circle to Search with Google is also available, now with multi object recognition. Users can search several items in a single image at once, such as clothing, accessories or nearby products.

Camera upgrades focus on clear photos day and night

Samsung continues to treat camera quality as a key buying factor in the mid range market. The Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G both feature a triple rear camera system led by a 50MP main sensor for detailed everyday photography.

Low light shooting has been improved with Samsung’s Nightography technology, aimed at producing brighter and cleaner photos after dark. Samsung says the Galaxy A57 5G goes further with enhanced image processing that reduces noise, sharpens detail and improves colour balance in difficult lighting conditions.

Portrait photography also benefits from AI based scene recognition and subject detection. This helps preserve skin tones, separate the background more naturally and improve image balance automatically.

Both devices include ultra wide cameras for landscape shots and group photos, along with 5MP macro cameras for close up photography.

On the front, users get a 12MP selfie camera for video calls and self portraits.

Editing tools powered by AI

Samsung is adding more creative tools directly into the Gallery and editing experience.

Object Eraser has been upgraded to deliver more natural results when removing distractions such as people in the background or unwanted clutter.

The Galaxy A57 5G also gains Best Face, a feature designed for group photos. It can analyse motion photo frames and suggest better facial expressions so everyone looks their best in a single image.

Filters and Edit Suggestions remain available for fast enhancements, while Auto Trim on the A57 5G helps users cut videos more efficiently.

These additions show Samsung’s intention to bring premium editing tools into the mid range category without requiring third party apps.

Display and design improvements

The Galaxy A57 5G features a 6.7 inch Full HD Plus Super AMOLED Plus display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and Vision Booster technology for better outdoor visibility. Samsung says the device has slimmer bezels and a more refined look, with a glossy finish and redesigned triple camera island.

The phone measures 161.5 x 76.8 x 6.9mm and weighs 179g, making it notably slim for a device with a large battery.

The Galaxy A37 5G also uses a 6.7 inch Full HD Plus display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and Vision Booster support, though it uses Super AMOLED rather than AMOLED Plus. It measures 162.9 x 78.2 x 7.4mm and weighs 196g.

Both models are designed for users who want large screens for streaming, gaming, browsing and social media use.

Performance and battery life

Samsung says the Galaxy A57 5G includes upgraded CPU, GPU and NPU hardware for faster overall performance. While the company has not publicly named the chipset in this announcement, it positions the phone as suitable for multitasking, content creation, gaming and media consumption.

A 5,000mAh battery powers the device, with Samsung claiming up to two days of usage under typical conditions. The Galaxy A57 5G also supports Super Fast Charging 2.0, reaching up to 60 percent charge in around 30 minutes.

Samsung has also increased the vapor chamber size by 13 percent compared with the previous model, which should help maintain performance during longer gaming or recording sessions.

Battery capacity for the Galaxy A37 5G is also listed at 5,000mAh, giving both phones competitive endurance in their segment.

Strong durability and security focus

Both phones carry an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, an important feature still uncommon in many mid range smartphones. Samsung states the devices were tested for submersion in up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for up to 30 minutes under lab conditions.

Security is another major selling point. Samsung Knox and Knox Vault provide hardware backed protection for sensitive data.

Additional privacy features include:

  • Security and Privacy Dashboard
  • Auto Blocker
  • Theft Protection
  • Private Sharing
  • Private Album for locking personal photos and videos
  • Privacy Alerts for suspicious permission requests or monitoring attempts

Samsung is increasingly using security as a long term differentiator, especially as more users store financial, identity and personal data on smartphones.

Six years of updates adds long term value

One of the strongest announcements tied to the new Galaxy A lineup is software longevity.

Samsung says the Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G will receive up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, along with up to six years of security updates.

That level of support places the phones among the strongest options in the Android mid range market for buyers who keep devices for several years.

Long update cycles can improve resale value, extend device life and reduce the need for frequent upgrades.

Storage and memory options

The Galaxy A57 5G will be available in:

  • 8GB RAM + 256GB storage
  • 12GB RAM + 256GB storage
  • 12GB RAM + 512GB storage

The Galaxy A37 5G will be offered in:

  • 6GB RAM + 128GB storage
  • 8GB RAM + 128GB storage
  • 8GB RAM + 256GB storage

These options give users flexibility based on budget and storage needs.

Colours and availability

Samsung has confirmed availability in South Africa first.

Galaxy A57 5G colours:

  • Awesome Navy
  • Awesome Gray

Galaxy A37 5G colours:

  • Awesome Lavender
  • Awesome Gray
  • Awesome Dark Green

Pricing starts at:

  • Galaxy A57 5G from R11,999
  • Galaxy A37 5G from R8,699

Samsung says buyers purchasing on prepaid channels including Samsung stores, Incredible Connection and Takealot can also access bundle savings on accessories such as Galaxy Fit3 and Galaxy Buds Core.

Market impact and outlook

The new Galaxy A57 5G and Galaxy A37 5G show how aggressively Samsung is targeting the upper mid range smartphone category. Instead of relying only on premium flagships, the company is now bringing AI tools, long update commitments, water resistance and capable cameras to a much wider audience.

For many users, these are the features that matter most in daily life rather than experimental hardware. Better photos, dependable battery life, years of updates and smarter software tools can influence buying decisions more than raw benchmark numbers.

With competitors also pushing hard in the mid range space, Samsung’s latest Galaxy A launch appears designed to strengthen loyalty among users who want a trusted brand with premium style at a more accessible price.

Final verdict

The Galaxy A57 5G stands out as the more complete package with advanced camera features, slimmer design and stronger performance promises, while the Galaxy A37 5G aims to deliver essential premium features at a lower entry price.

If Samsung delivers consistent real world performance, the two new Galaxy A phones could become important contenders in 2026’s competitive smartphone market.
